Kulning

Ever heard of Kulning? It's the name of this high-pitched, magical herding call from Sweden, passed down through generations.

Picture this: open meadows, dense forests, and a voice cutting through the air, creating a timeless melody. Originally it was used by women in the forest to communicate. If you hear it, you can get the feeling of Kulning being a secret language with nature. Its haunting tones take you back to ancient times, echoing the soul of Nordic culture.

During the summer of 2022, me and my friend Tuva Modéer put together a local mini tour, playing Swedish folk music and singing kulning in beautiful places in nature. You can see some of the places we visited in this video.

And since the tour of 2022 was kind of a success, we made another one in the summer of 2023. Here are some short videos from that tour.
